Paramount Shops 'Galaxy Quest' as a TV Show

LOS ANGELES - Paramount Pictures is out shopping a TV version of the1999 feature film comedy "Galaxy Quest" as a TV show, Variety is reporting.

Robert Gordon, who with David Howard co-wrote the DreamWorks feature is said to be in negotiations to write the TV adaptation of the movie. Original director Dean Parisot and executive producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein are also reportedly in negotiations to join the project.

The film told the story of the cast of a "Star Trek" type show which years after its cancellation are called back into action by an alien race who believes they are the characters they portrayed on the show. It starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub and Sam Rockwell.

Paramount has been busy repurposing some of its properties for television reboots of late. It's currently producing a TV version of the Jack Black 2003 comedy “School of Rock” for Nickelodeon and is a co-producing with 20th Century Fox TV the Fox pilot “Minority Report,” based upon the Tom Cruise 2002 sci-fi drama.
